Announcements Heeren XVII 20-05-2010
-             Protest to protect the student grants
-             AIESEC Summer Projects
-             Student Council election

***  Protest to protect the student grants  ***
The Hague knows for sure: Students are being degraded after the next election. The abolition of student grants, extra pay for your second study and the public-transportcard (OV-card) dissapear in its current form and increasing tuition fees are frequently mentioned in The Hague as austerity measures.
For that reason, we as students just before the elections once again speak out against cuts to students. This will happen on May 21, at 14.00 hrs on the Museumplein in Amsterdam; departure 12.27h. from train station Ede-Wageningen.
There will be music and speakers, and hopefully around 5000 or more students.
The mains message should be: Do not deflate education!

***  AIESEC Summer Projects  ***
AIESEC offers International Summer Projects (6 - 8 weeks) abroad varying from volunteering educational to development projects. Some examples: stimulate entrepreneurs to set up their own business in El Salvador, rehabilitation on horses with disabled children in Poland, raise HIV/AIDS awareness in Kenya, SOS Children Village in the Philippines, community development in Cairo... And while you’re abroad, AIESEC offers you support during the preparations and your stay and organizes (cultural) activities. Since this is arranged by the local AIESEC students, you get to know the country in a different way than a tourist and you’ll meet other international students who have also gone abroad with AIESEC.
So, for a last minute International Summer Project or for more info, mail us: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or drop by at LA 13.

***  Student Council election  ***
The Student Council election will take place from the 25th of May till the 1st of June. It could be that this is the first time you can choose which student may represent you within the University, because there were no elections during the last 2 years. This year there are more candidates then the 12 seats available. VeSte has 28 candidates ready to represent the Wageningen students next year.
The task of the Student Council is to represent the Wageningen University students on the highest level. Next year will be a very important year in which, among others, new FOS (Financial support study delay) regulations will be approved. This is very important for VeSte, because the FOS is needed to make sure enough students are able to join a board or committee and all activities can still be organized.
Besides, big changes in the educational system are waiting to happen: The sharp distinction and the new Major-Minor system. Large improvements are also to be made for the integration of international students and the room shortage will be a problem again.
In short, many reasons to vote for the party which stands for active students and high quality education.

Yours truly,

on behalf of Heeren XVII,

Mans Vossebeld
Secretary

Something like the goodbye drawings from the little kids from the SOS children village or empada’s made by the mother of your the host family in São Paulo? It’s up to you! Let AIESEC turn your summer into an exclusive experience through a Summer project in, for example, Jordan or Brazil. Interested and want to find out more? ***  WSO is looking for board members  ***

The WSO (student union) is looking for new board members from March.  As a WSO board member, you are looking after students’ rights.

We are especially looking for a Dutch speaking person. This is because there are things like Dutch e-mail, finances and contacts with the ‘Landelijke Studenten Vakbond’ (Dutch National Students Union) for which board members need to speak and write Dutch. Furthermore, one of our Dutch speaking board members will leave in March.

Do you want to be active within the WSO, but not as a board member? That is also possible; we are also looking for active members. For example, at this moment we are thinking of creating an education working group; such a working group has also existed in the past. But also for other working groups or new ideas, active members are always very welcome.

*** Coordinating an international excursion for the RUW Foundation  ***

Do you want to learn how to design, organise and coordinate an international excursion, learn how to effectively apply for EU funding and are you looking for a part-time, flexible internship in Wageningen? Then this is something for you!

In September 2010 we would like to organize an international excursion, just like we did this year to Romania (look at our website for reports)! We are looking for an intern who is willing to organize it for us. So are you looking for an internship? Are you flexible, independent, are you a social person and do you have affinity with ‘green space’? Are you available in the period from March to September 2010 for 2 days per week (exact times and period are negotiable)? We offer you a chance to learn a lot in an organisation which has 30 years of experience and a big network and the opportunity to deepen your own interests by means of activities. Does this sound good to you? Then become an intern at the Rural Wageningen Foundation! Hand in your motivation before 1st February!

*** Attention for short holidays and room shortage ***

Christmas, it seems that we will have a long time to go still. This year we have to work until the last day before Christmas, exams are planned until the morning before Christmas. Afterwards we all have to go home quickly, have a diner, maybe go to church, empty a bottle of champagne a few days later, throw some fire-crackers to the neighbours and back to the lectures again. Little mistake, was said last year, and it won’t happen again. Fake promises. It will be the same next year. Action! 8th of December at the Forum.

Again only one week to relax and for the foreign students only one week to visit their family abroad, we won’t accept it just like that. With the hangover of new-year in our head we can start the 3rd period with a “fresh” mind.

Next, the room shortage. We are talking with hotels about getting students a hotel room for a reasonable price. A better option than living at Hoenderloo. If this will be possible is still to be seen. We still have to do some work on the details, hotel Hof van Wageningen (WICC previous) gave the opportunity to house up to 91 students from the December 11th. More information: www.wso.wur.nl/kamerbalie/

We are also searching for more input and feedback from all students. Therefore we have the VeSte Supporters Group. Apply at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We have all our plans for the coming year ready, but we really want to act as a bridge between the students and the Board of Directors (BoD). We meet with the BoD on a regular basis, but sometimes we miss the interaction with students. Do you have input for us?
